How to respond to
a housing planning application
The Council's Planning Committee is required by law to decide planning applications according to how they comply, or not, with a number of important documents - so you need to check whether the application you are concerned about is compliant or not.
So check out:
- the Council's Unitary Development Plan: particularly the section relating to housing, but other parts may also be relevant e.g. Green Belt
- the government's planning guidance on housing: Planning Policy Guidance note 3 (PPG3), which contains important statements about 'previously developed land before greenfield sites' (paragraphs 32-34) and expected density for housing schemes (paragraph 58)
- If you think that a planning application is not compliant with either of these documents, then state so in your comments e.g. "The development is not compliant with UDP policy H4 because ..."
- And now you can comment or object to housing planning applications online, but remember you will need the application number - such as 05/00699 - to access the system.
